Who we are
As a politically and religiously independent non-profit environmental organization our aim is to strengthen and coordinate student engagement in environmental and sustainability issues at Lund university. Through hard work of many engaged students is Hållbart Universitet contributing to developing the environmental work at the university. As a social movement organization we also feel the responsibility to stimulate debate and reflection on sustainable development and make a difference on this planet.
Following, some spotlights on our work reflecting our main objectives:
- Informed Environmental Citizenship: At the Global Buy Nothing Day a group of engaged HU people went to Lund’s Mårtenstorget talking to citizens and handing in handouts about alternatives towards a sustainable consumption style. A colourful choir – singing songs as “We are the world” (Michael Jackson) and “Retta klimatet” (Vendela Strömbeck) – gave a taste of a new life style.
- Activities with a Positive Environmental Impact: In a current project, a group of us develops a strategy to replace commonly used paper coffee cups in local cafés at Lund University. We are searching for alternatives producing less waste and more environmental awareness beyond students. Sustainable Lifestyles: Guiding a City Tour on Sustainable Consumption, we educate young people about how to make a more positive environmental impact and actively participating in doing good as citizens.
- National and International Cooperation: 350.org is an international social movement organisation supporting the growing climate movement, for example at COP 15 in Copenhagen in 2009. We participated in Global Day of action 2009 (photo with blue hands (350)) and will be engaged in Global Work Party in October 2010.
