City tour on sustainable consumption!

Today, 4pm in the afternoon we organize another of our

INCREDIBLY AWESOME, NOT TO BE MISSED

City Walk of Sustainable Consumption!

Today, Thursday, May 5
16:00 – 17:30

We start at Om-Tanke, next to OnOff and Erikshjälpen Second Hand Shop, on Stora Södergatan 27.

The tour will be held in English.

What impact do our usual consumption patterns have on the environment, locally and globally? Where in Lund can I get clothes made of fair trade and organic cotton? Where to buy local and seasonal vegetables? Do you know already all of Lund’s fantastic Second Hand Shops?

We will answer these and more questions in this tour, which instead of visiting tourist sites, will show you different places in Lund, where you can find out about the social and environmental impacts that the production and consumption of goods have – like a pair of jeans, a computer, a cup of coffee or a steak.

We will point out alternatives and local examples for sustainable consumption, showing how you can make a difference through your choice as consumer!

Remember: “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens can change the world!” (Margaret Mead)

2011 – Yes we can!

Happy New Year everyone!

This is the first blog post in 2011 and the first to be written in our new office!  :D

It’s located on the fourth floor in the AF castle and HU moved in on Friday December 17 2010. After some rounds between Geocentrum and LundagÃ¥rd in the ankle deep snow, we managed to create an initial HU feel to this room with a bookshelf, a nice blue sofa, two desks and seven chairs, all generously donated by our good patrons of the LUMES staff! Thank you very much!

We still need some small accessories like a desk lamp, some foldable chairs for our growing crowd, reusable cups and a water boiler, a whiteboard, and maybe a plant, some printed photos from our many projects through the years, and other things we feel that we need to make ourselves at home. We will of course be getting second hand things instead of buying brand new products and adding to for example the overconsumption of natural resources, the increasing global social and economic injustice, and the galloping climate change; for example by going regularly to Erikshjälpen on Stora Södergatan and keeping an eye on the Freecycle list! Easypeasy and fun!  :D

Our meetings will from now on be held in this office, but still on Mondays at 17.15 / 5.15 pm. The first meeting is on Monday January 17 – can’t wait to bundle up with you all again and jump-start a brand new semester and year! We have some cool things coming up, like a kick-off weekend in Mölle in February, a national battery collection campaign with the Swedish Ecodemics and Avfall Sverige, and the GreenSex project together with P6! And of course continuing our city tours on sustainable consumption, certifying nations with the Green Frog, progressing with the Green Cups on campus, etc etc!  :D

So, as Mr Bill “350″ McKibben would say: Onwards!
