The growing #Occupy movement

Hey everyone!

The #Occupy movement has spread rapidly and greatly, from the historic #Occupy Wall Street soon after the Moving Planet event, to meetings and events in over 1 770 cities world wide! If you want to get involved as part of the 99% of the world’s population in stopping the 1% who pollute politics and sustain the global domination of international companies that prioritize profit over people, make sure you check out Occupy Together’s homepage to find a group or event near you. For us in Lund, the closest groups are in Malmö and Copenhagen, for now… The link is also added under the tag “Links” above!

Also, check out 350.org’s post on how the #Occupy movement and climate change is connected!

Have a nice weekend!

Moving Planet: towards a fossil fuel free future

art making during moving planet day

Today on Moving Planet day people all over the world people are gathering to visualize how they intend to move around the planet. These people decide to move around by bicycles, by skateboard, by train, by feet, by sailing boats. They all have in common that they intend to keep away from fossil fuels. Because, in the long-term, there are better ways of moving around.

In Lund we have been preparing for this day for the last few weeks and now it’s here. With joyous shouts and bike decorations. Another NGO, Naturskyddsföreningen were there organizing bike tours through the city. One of the memories will certainly be the photo flashmob that happened 12 o’clock today. People just visiting the square joined in as well.

It’s through events like these and the fun you have along the way you eventually change what looks like a bleak future. We also wanted this event to be something that stretched further than this day only. In the run up for this day we have organized a fundraise to ship at least 150 used or broken bicycles to South Africa. So in the coming months we will continue to fundraise to ship these bicycles to people that could use them better.

The nice thing about living in a global village like we do today is that it’s so much easier to help each other. So we invite you to take part in helping us, either  helping us through FundedByMe or by volunteering your used bicycle.
