Nation Frog
HU’s environmental diploma, called the “Nation Frog”, is a kind of simplified environmental management system that is adapted for Lund’s student nations. The system is a tool that has been developed to facilitate and assist nations in their environmental efforts. It primarily includes the nations’ direct environmental impacts but in some cases also incorporates the indirect environmental impacts from the nations’ suppliers and partners.
The criteria for an environmentally sound student nation are:
- Mandatory requirements
- Scored requirements
The mandatory requirements include documentation, organization and objectives and related action plans about the environmental soundness of the nation. The nation is scored according to both environmental practices as well as improvements. The nation can decide what procedures and measures to impose or carry out. Setting own proposals and initiatives are most welcome. A nation must meet the mandatory requirements and has to obtain the necessary points for the scored requirements to become environmentally certified.
The certification process
To receive the Nation Frog the nation has to contact Lund Students for Sustainability (HU) for help with getting started and to get an introduction to the system. Then the nation gets working to meet the requirements, supported by HU’s environmental coordinator. When the nation meets the requirements for certification, an audit by HU takes place. If the nation is approved, the nation will receive a diploma that is valid for one calendar year.
Audits of environmental performance with regard to follow-up procedures and effectiveness will then be implemented each year.
Currently, the following nations have the Nation Frog:
