Green sex
HÃ¥llbart Universitet partnered during spring 2011 with the student organization Project Sex (P6), which works with spreading information about sexual relationships and identities, STIs and contraceptives. Together we organized a week in April/May 2011 on the subject sustainable sex. All events were for free and in English in order to reach as many as possible. Here’s what happened:
- Thu April 28 at 5.00 pm we sent an hour’s talk about green sex through Radio AF as an introduction to the subject. Representatives for P6 and HU spoke freely and discussed what the week could shed a light on. The environmental impact of condoms flushed down the toilet, the biological impact of hormones on marine organisms, if there actually exist any fair trade condoms, what rubber is made of, and if “green sex” means intercourse outdoors, were some of the things mentioned…
- Sat April 30 (Valborgsmässoafton holiday), we did a condom raid in the city park (Stadsparken) and handed out 5 000 sachets of organic lube and 5 000 fair trade condoms, to make people aware of these alternatives. The many many and very wanted little packs lasted only for two hours!
- Tue May 3 at 7.00 pm there was a panel debate in Athen on the subject green sex. A biologist, an NGO representative, a master student in Public Health, and an online sex toy store owner all had their say, moderated by none other than the green local politician and former P6 coordinator Petter Forkstam! Does it get any better?! The debate painted a broad perspective on the subject and the audience certainly took the opportunity to ask questions and comment during the evening!
It was incredibly interesting and great fun to run this week together and both P6 and HU are eager to cooperate again soon! If you have any questions about the week, please email HU’s Annika Hagberg for more information.
